Which comp cam?

I have a roller motor with 9.6:1 compression.

It is street with occasional track time.

I am looking into getting a extreme energy 270 grind. The lift is .495/.502

I will be running a set of stock l98s heads (for now). with better springs of course.

Rest of the combo is 670cfm street avenger, holley street dominator intake, TES headers, no cat, 3'' hooker catback, 3.73 gears. Right now a stock stall in a 700r4. I hope to get a 2200-2400 10'' b&m before summer is over.

You think the xe270hr would be good. Its power range is 1600-5400

Pretty good. Next step up is the xe280hr....power is made from 2200-6100...

What you all think?

Ok, first, there is no such thing as a XE280hr. There is a Xe282hr, which i think you are refering to.

Second, you are incorrect. There is a grind between the 270hr and the 282hr. It is the popular XE276hr. Several members of this board run that cam and like it.

Xe276hr:
* Advertised duration: 276 intake/282 exhaust
* Duration at .050 in.: 224 intake/230 exhaust
* Gross valve lift: .502 in. intake/.510 in. exhaust
* Lobe separation: 110 degrees
* RPM range: 1,900 to 5,600
* Needs 2,000 stall converter and lower gears
* Choppy idle

I think a 22-2400 stall and 3.73 gears would compliment this cam nicely.

What site are you on? I was looking at jegs and they have a xe270 and a xe280 listed. I didn't see a xe276.

Ok my bad just looked your right 282. However jegs does not have the 276 listed.

That cam sounds like what I want. I want a lopey idle. Mainly for the sound. But I do not want to go huge on the cam because it has to actually idle and perform within my engine rpm range. Since I will not be revving over 5600 or so I may just get the 270 or maybe the 276.

I am getting the gears in a week or so. I am gonna run my lt4 cam with the l98 heads until I get the stall and time to install it. Then I am going to start looking for a new cam.

i went to www.compcams.com. Visit the online catalog. scroll down until you see cams for chevy 262-400. Its just under General Motors Corprate, far left column. click on the Chevy small block 262-400 and scroll until you see retro-fit hydraulic roller.

Summit has it. Its part number <A HREF="http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=CCA%2D12%2D423%2D8">CCA-12-423-8</A>
