Question about my starter
Alright, bout ready to put the 355 in. Should be in the next month or so. Question I have is about the starter in the car now. Going from the 9.3:1 305 to a 10.25:1 355 plus adding Hooker LTs, is that starter gonna crap out fast u think? Would I be better off just going ahead and getting a higher torque mini-starter to help w/ the headers and so I am not up under the car changing the starting in 2 months or stranded somewhere?
Car has 120,000 miles on it, and I bet its the original... Might not be, but I have only had the car since 91,000.

I think you'd be better off doing that; the GN starter is notoriously weak to begin with.
I have the CVR mini-starter, which uses a Nippodenso motor, works fine on a fairly high-compression 400. Other people report that they also get good results with one of the minis that uses the other motor, which is the Hitachi; and the LT1 starter.

Forget the stock starter. Get the high torque mini. I tried using the stock starter when my 350 with headers went in and once it got hot it would not start. I first tried a remote solenoid and a heat wrap around the starter and headers. Nothing worked until I installed a mini starter.

My china ministarter (powermaster) was super cheap and has served me well for 2 years with quite a bit of abuse. The starter is half the weight, has much more torque (stock would not even turn over my motor), gives more room for headers and wiring, and it looks and sounds great.
