Blinker holds the light instead of blinking

The turn signals on my 82 do not blink when they are supposed to. All it does is turn on the light and keep it on until I move the lever back to the center. The indicator lights show the turn signals are keeping the light on also.

It started to do this a few days ago.

My dad said my flashed which is under or in the dash needs to be replaced and I could replace it myself.

Now I have to manually make the turn signals blink. arg

The worst part of the day is on the way home I got pulled by a civic.

Yup, just replace the flasher. It should cost less that $5 at any auto parts store. It'll take a few minutes to get all the under dash padding off, but it's definately easier to replace a flasher than to manually blink the blinkers.

It is probably not the flasher.

At least one light bulb is out. Walk around the car while it's supposed to be flashing, and replace the light bulbs that don't work.

mine does it also but the cause of mine was a rock breaking out the signal housing. i have to replace the whole assembly on mine but it took me a while to realize why the light stayed on when i turned the signal on.

Check your bulbs either in the turn lights in the front of back and see if one or more is out.
