Beginner Chip
One of the first things I did when I got my 95 stang was buy a hypertech chip. this was one of the biggest mistakes I made with the car, I don't want to repeat it with my Iroc. Its a 5.7 tpi, auto, and I would like a chip for several reasons, not the least of which is to improve the shift points. The car has only a new tune up and k&n's but you have to start somewhere. Where do you guys get your chips from? I have learned from past experience these boards are the best product testimoniy. thanks

you shouldn't really need a chip for anything in a bone stock application.. start off with replacing the factory exhaust manifolds with headers and a new exhaust system the whole way back, its the single biggest restriction in these cars. To adjust your shift points (within reason) you do have some adjustability in your TV cable.. it won't increase firmness but can change the RPM at which shifts take place, keep in mind you don't really wanna go much higher then stock if any on a TPI car as the runner design limits flow at higher RPMs...

As for the TV cable, the best way to have it adjusted is to have maximum cable tension allowed by the ratcheting mechanism at WOT. This is how its supposed to be adjusted. This way the trans has the proper line pressures. The trans is pretty sensitive to how the TV is set and if its misadjusted it can cause poor shifting and damage the transmission.
