Trans Crossmember Bolts Broke. How To Fix?

I've read through the other posts about this, but Im not sure if anyone else has had this idea...

All 4 crossmember bolts are broken off inside the frame. Instead of drilling them out for hours, can I make a rectangular cut in the frame, around the broken bolts, weld new nuts to a new piece of metal, put it in place and weld it on? This is the only thing holding me back from getting my engine in...

Can't see why not.... there's nothing special about what's there. And it's not an extremely high-stress area anyway. Go for it.
