My car has been starting horrible. It takes almost five or six seconds of cranking to get it going. It had been getting worse. Now, just the last few days, it has developed a tick, kinda loud. At idle, it is audible, but at just above idle it is loud. tick, tick, tick, sounds like a timebomb!! I dont hear it when I take off, but when I lift off the gas, I can hear it again. What is it????? Also, I have noticed smoke from the exhaust on startup, and sometimes, a funny smell. What is wrong?? Car has 154,500 miles. Is the engine on a downhill slide, or is thsi an easy fix....I guess it would help if I knew what is wrong . But I am hoping you guys will help me there!!!! Any suggestions are welcome..

Humm check for Ticking, I hear TICKING just down a little ways, alot of good posts were in that about some of the same issues.

 

That ticking sounds like a exhaust manifold gasket is bad. If you have the stock manifolds, you wont have gaskets, but it sounds like the time to put a set on.
