stripped out distributor hold down clamp

so this is my first post...let me start off by saying that the message board has helped me more times than i can count. I searched and search the boards but can't find an answer to my problem. here goes..

My distributor hold down clamp hole into the manifold is stripped and i am not sure how to go about fixing it. The car is a 91 Z28 with 350tpi. the only way i can figure is taking the manifold out and puting in a helicoil or replacing the manifold. any help would be appreciated..thanks

Yup, a Heli-coil.... piece of cake. You probably would have to take the manifold off to get to it, but other than that, not a big deal at all.

For a temporary fix you could find a bigger bolt and try and thread it in, you might beable to find a metric bolt that wil work. Or tap it to a bigger size. You will have to drill anyway for the heli-coil.

helicoil or tapping to a larger size will work. filling the hole with jb weld and retapping will work if you don't tighten the bolt too much. using a stud and nut will take a lot of wear and tear off the threads in the intake too.

thanks you all....think that i am going to try to thread a different bolt into b/c i don't want to have to take out the distributor/or take off the manifold.

If you have more space, you can also use a solid thread insert. Stock intakes appear to have enough material to use a full insert, but the spare Edelcrap I have holding my doo ropen appears to have just enough for a Heli-Coil.

Either way, use anti seize compound this time so you don't have the same situation that 84 Restore had.
