whos gonna bet im right

i was driving my car today going through a parking lot, im going like 10 in first adn punch it while going through a puddle , well when i get out of the puddle there is this *** awful ticking/thumping/slapping/banging noise, so i pull over and check it out, well there aint nothing wrong i can see, no water in the carb or anythng, so i drive home (a couple blocks) at very low speed, jack the front end of the car up and have a friend start it, well i cant see anything but its amazingly loud noise, i look at the oil pan and every time there is a noise the pan bottom jumps a little

so who wants to bet that my 48000 mile L-69 broke a dang rod and its barely hitting the pan causing the noise

guess its a good time to go to a 350, not the way i wanted to and a littel sooner, but whatever

I've also never seen an engine continue to run after its broken/thrown a rod. 99.9% of the time it'll instantly cause catastrophic damage.

I'd also suggest you fire it up and rev it to like 6000RPM and hold it there until you hear CLUNJCLCUCBCNCCKCLACNAKACBANG ...on video of course. I mean, if you're gona replace it with a 350 anyway might as well go out with a bang right?

Dont know about the rest of you but id be pissed about trashing a perfectly good low milage L69. They may not be the fastest thing in the world but its still a decent motor. Im surprised it gave up. How high did you rev it?

Are you sure something didn't hit the pan and it bent or got dented? On my friends 305 Camaro this happened. Popped the dent out and was as good as new.

ay i hve a problem with blowing it up, it runs to damn good to do that, or at least it did

it was at maybe 4000 rpm when it went, its wierd cause it never mad a huge noise, but deffinatly makes noise now

i dont think that the pan is dented, looks fine from under neath

im gonna pull the pan on saturday to check it out, hopefull i find some good news
any tricks to pulling the pan that would help

if its not to bad im gonna put a new rod in it and try to sell it, theres a lot of LG4 cars in town that have been beat by me, maybe one of them will want a stronger motor who knows
