how to adj my timming??

I changed my intake gasket and I want to make sure my timming is where it is supposed to be. I just bought a Craftsman Advance Inductive timing light. this light has an adjustable **** to adjust the light from 0-60 degrees.I had my motor dyno tested and it tested best at 37 degrees. I turned the dial to 37 degrees but that def didn't help me out. how do I use this timing light. this is prob a dumb question I know but I have never adjusted timing before. I do have an MSD dist and an MSD 6AL box if that matters. this dist was the dist used during dyno testing but of course the box is not. this should be a very easy thing to do, once I find out how to do it lol.

connect the timing light. disconnect the vacuum, or est, plug vacuum. set the dial at zero. run engine, move distributor untill the timing mark is at zero. set the dial where you want your base set at then move the distributor until the timing marks line up on zero. there should of been instructions with the timing light telling you how to use it. this is harder to tell how to do than actually doing it.
