Removing valve springs while in car

I have some new valve springs I bought in anticipation of a cam swap soon. However, I don't have a compressed air source (with the exception of a little compressor w/o a tank) to hold the valves in. Also, I read somewhere that i have to replace the valve seals too, something I'd rather not do because they don't leak at all. would it just be easier to buy a little air tank, or is there another way to do it?

Thanks,
Brandon

You can do it without air if you remove the spark plugs; one at a time bring each cylinder to firing, stuff the cylinder full of ¼" rope, do the deed, pull out the rope and move on to the next cyl
