What motor is in a 92 Z factory
Now Im pretty sure I got down what motor comes in which model and year. But for some reason I had a brain fart when some one brought this to my attenchun.
As far as I know in the 92 z it came with a 5.7 and it is TPI right?
The 5.0 only came in the Rs for that year and it is TBI?
But if the 305 did come in the Z it would be TBI or TPI?
Thanks for clearing this up for me I'm pretty sure TPI was only on the 5.7.
Reason Im asking. My friend told me that her father was a mechanic and that she only had a 5.0 in it, but then she told me it had the plenum on top of it. So I was like
that dont sound right. Unless the 5.0 came with it and I've never heard of it.
I haven't been able to see her engine bay yet so I dont know for sure. plus I've never seen a 5.0 with the plenum on top (probably cause thier aint none):nono:
I know this a boner question, but I would like to clear it up and make sure when I told her that it was a 5.7 i was right and her mechanic father doesn't know his motors. Of course I could be the wrong
Thanks for any help (I probably answered my own question
) 2nd opinions are always better though
duece

Yup, there's alot more 305s in the world with TPI, than 350s.
Unless, of course, you're looking on eBay, or asking a seller.... then most of those 305s morph into 350s all of a sudden.

standard Z engine in 92 was the 305 TPI. The 350 TPI was the top option. The 305 TPI was the only available engine in the Z 'vert. The 305 TBI was only available on RS.

look under the hood? erm gonna be kinda hard to tell the difference between a 305 and 350 just by looking at it unless you have SBC block casting numbers memorized in your head.. but if you just wanna tell what origionally came in the car you can look at the emissions decals granted they are still there..

For what the factory put in it, 8th character of the VIN:
"F" = 305
"8" = 350
"F" = 305
"8" = 350
