Oil pressure sending unit wires

I took the sending unit off when I replaced a blown head gasket but the connector on the smaller of the two round things on the stem will go on two ways. There are two wires a brown and brown/white the connector has two terminals one shorter than the other. Does it matter which way it goes on?
