QUICK need help with MSD doing right now!!

All I need left to do is power lead

it has a power supply all the time?? I asume because it calls to be connected to the batt.

my last question is if there is a power lead going off the batt. stright to the the back of the altinator, I dont see why I cant get my 12v power from there.. would there be a problem with that?????
Thanks

not an expert but I dont think it gets power all the time. TRy hooking it up to a 12V source that comes on when the ignition switch is on. Be sure and put a fuse between the power source and ignition box....I;d get black box 1"x1"x1" from radio shack that has 4 or 5 prongs, lettered 37 80, 81 or someletters like that.

I;m trying to think how the little box worked. I think the numbers were 35,85,86,87, but I;m not sure what numbers were ground and what not.

from the battery run a wire to a 20 amp fuse.

from the 20 amp fuse go to a prong on the black box.

from a different prong on the black box run a wire to a keyed 12 v source.

now all of that should take care of 2 of the prongs.

Now from the black box run a wire from one of the remaing of the prongs and ground it.

now take the last prong on the black box and run a wire to the ignition box.

again I dont know exactly what numbers are on the box and which numbers do what, but on the back of the package there is a diagram that shows you what the ground and what you run the power source into, etc.

My MSD box gets it's +12 volts from the positive battery cable at the starter solenoid. Of course, my box is closest to the starter, not the battery.

The reason companies ask you to hook it up to the starter is that there will be no corrosion there, as there usually will be on the battery, sooner or later, which can effect the connection.
