another valve spring question, part between retainers and springs..

On my heads, there are these little "hats" over the valves and the retainers sit on the "hats", with my zz4 cam kit, I have springs and retainers but no hats. Should I re-use the old hats or just stick the retainers right on top of the valve springs???

you don't need them, just the retainer. it'll save you weight in the valve train and give you more spring height. you'd want to make sure you have the correct install height.

Right... those are oil shields. They have been known to wear through and the outside part just fall down around the valve and make noise.

Throw them away and use positive valve seals such as the ones from Crane or Comp if they'll fit, and the retainers without the oil splash shields.
