I have a 91' RS 305 TBI after an almost total top end rebuild the transmission when COLD (like first thing in the morning or anytime it has sat for more than a couple hours). When I put the car in drive it shifts really hard like the thing going to jump from under the car or something, it will also wind up to @ 3500 rpm before shifting into 2nd gear and when it goes again its pretty hard. 3rd and OD usally aren't that bad even when cold After it has warmed up and gone thru the gears a couple time it will start shifting fairly smooth and probobly @2700rpm. I have adjusted the T/V cable as per board instructions and that seems to make it a little worse I slid it out a little more than the WOT adjustment and thats basically where I stand. The top end rebuils includes an Edlebrock performer manifold, Heddman shorty headers new lifters and new T/V cable (as the orginal broke during disassembly) fresh ATF new filter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Brad

The TV cable should have maximum tension in it at WOT. Go do a search on the trans board for the adjustement procedure. Just as a FYI, the trans should shift around 1600-1800 rpms when your jsut cruising around. Suppose the TV could be stuck as well. Mine likes to do that alot since its full of sludge and crap. Irritating to have to pull on the cable a bunch of times untill it finally frees up.

To adjsut the TV cable properly, open the throttle all the way up and depress teh 'D' shaped metal tab and pull the cable back as hard as you can toward the firewall and release the metal tab while still holding the cable back. The auto adjuster may click and thats ok but if it ratchets back out alot then the machanism is faulty. Once youve released the cable, close the throttle and see if its any better.
