Cam in, disipointing at the track.

I changed the peanut cam in my 87, to an LT-1 cam 418/430, 194/199, lsa 111. I also ported the plenum, runners, and base; and installed an air foil and AFPR. Last year with only a cat back I ran a 15.4 at 87.5 mph, today I ran a 15.0 at 89.5 mph. I had a net gain of 19 hp is this normal? I figured at lest a 1/2 sec gain. anyone else got any proven number gains with a cam change?

------------------
87 Z28 305 TPI, Auto, LT-1 cam (@.50 418/430, 194/199, LSA 111), roller timing set, 2.73, Gutted air boxes, K & N fillters, Dyno Max 3" cat back, 8.8 mm spirals, rapid fires, and 170* Stat.
Old Best 15.414 @ 87.47.

My sob story:

305 with peanut cam: 14.5 @ 96mph

305 with SLP .480 .487 lift 206 212 dur: 14.6 @95mph

If I'd wanted to go slower I would have pulled off a plug wire or something. I coulda done that for free.

Find a scanner and record some data from your runs down the track. You have to tune computer cars also, but you don't know what they are doing unless you record some data.

Try adjusting the initial timing and fuel pressure, that should help.

You were expecting 1/2 a second, well .4 is almost .5, but I get your point.

You said you installed an AFPR, what did you set it at? If you didn't make any adjustments, the pressure may be too low, and if you cranked down on it alot, you are probably choking it out w/ too much fuel.

Are you haveing traction problems?

Also, I see that your only exhaust mod, is the Catback. If you still have stock manifolds, then you are probably trying to pump in more air than you can get rid of. Get some headers, and and a better flowing catalyst, and you should net some better gains.

Yes I made adjustments after every run. I tried fuel persures from 42 to 50. I adjusted timing from 2* BTDC to 10* BTDC. Best run was made with INT settings of 8* BTDC and fuel presure of 42psi. Buy the way it was the first run of the day. Just for info I ran 15.1's all day @ 89- 89.5 mph. My 60' times were 2.18 all day with the best 2.16 on my best run.
