Which size rods?
Ok i just purchased a pair of 195cc AFR heads and going to get 1.6 Crane RR's. The thing is i need to know what kind of pushrods do i need to get? The length is what i need. I know the heads have guideplates on them. Also from swapping my 305 to my 383 (or 350 block) all the accesories should just bolt on right? I hope so because im a little low on cash and the parts i have on my 305 are still good and want to just put it on my 383. My main thing is the distributor? I have the LG4 305 and im going with the Edelbrock RPM air gap intake. I hope this helps if there is anything else you guys need to know just let me know and ill do my best to help out. Thanks a lot!!!
As long as all you are changing is the heads you should be fine. If you have a computer controlled carb and dist, you need to either keep both, or ditch both, because they dont work without the other. As for the accessories on the front of the motor, they should all work fine. The same holes are in all small block chevys (providing they have holes, some dont). Have fun.

ok the pushrods i can work out, it sounds like to prob. As far as the carb and distributor like you said as to ditch both or keep both. I bought a new edelbrock 750cfm w/ elec choke and vac. secondaries. So this mean i can use my stock dist. on my 305? if not then which is the best distributor to use that is at a fair price?

Since your heads have guideplates, you'll need a set of the hardened pushrods so they don't wear out where they rub on the guideplates. Comp, Crane, Summit all provide them. go with the ones with a .080 wall thickness.
Since I am guessing that you have the stock distributor and CC Q-jet, no you cant use the same distributor. The easiest thing to do would be to get a junkyard HEI. Doesnt cost much and will work. Or you could spend a lot more money and get the same thing that does the same thing.

im just looking to spend no more then $150 on a HEI distributor. I'll look around and keep my eyes open to see what i find if not then ill just go to a junkyard like you said. Also on the pushrods since im going with 1.6 RR my friends said that i need +.100 pushrods above stock length. Sometimes he can be wrong so i dont trust him. Anyways if i go with the adjustable hardened pushrods, all i have to do is just adjust them to the right length?

Mallory sells a replacement HEI for about $160 or so. Includes a 50,000v coil

Buy a pushrod length checking tool, dummy it up and determine what length you need. Take that length and go to Comps site or Crane, or Summit. Find the length that corresponds with what you need.
