help removing camshaft

1985 LG4...tearing down and I am trying to remove camshaft but if looks like there is a little lifter like item that moves in and out near the front of the camshaft. Thus when I try to take the camshaft out it binds to it..all the lifters are out and I can't even see another access point to get to this...If I try to push it all the way in it won't go far enough back to remove...

what is this and how do I get it out for camshaft removal? hope I explained this ok............

Yep, thats the fuel pump pushrod for the mechanical fuel pump. You have to unbolt the fuel pump to drop the pushrod out of the way.
