406 hyd. flat tappet-roller cam?

Im looking for what i need to put a roller cam in my 406. i can get a zz4 cam for it for 100 bucks and i have hardened pushrods for my edelbrock heads already. so what else would i need to complete this swap? and also About how much would it cost. i know the lifters are going to cost me a pretty penny......any help would be appreciated!

First of all, lifters are either flat tappet or roller, not both.

What RPM range do you want?
What transmissoin?
If auto trans, what stall?
What gears out back?
Which Edel. heads?
Whats the compression?
What are the valve springs?

Do a search as well.

You will need a retro-fit roller cam as no 400 block as ever machined for factory roller hardware. I believe the ZZ4 cam is a factory roller design. At that, it's also not the biggest cam for a 350. Which means, it would act even smaller in a 406.

2500-5500
5-speed
RPM
3.27
9.6:1
edelbrock(.550 limit)

im not looking for something huge. but something appropriate for street/strip use. more street than strip. i have a small cam in my car as it is right now(.454/.480 + 1.6 rockers=.488/512) and still low duration. if this is going to cost me too much i might as well forget it..... i figured i could probably get away with buying some used stuff and some new. but i dont know....

also the title means hyd. flat tappet cam to(swap) Roller cam

Something along the lines of the Comp Xtreme Energy 276HR:

Specifications:
* Advertised duration: 276 intake/282 exhaust
* Duration at .050 in.: 224 intake/230 exhaust
* Gross valve lift: .502 in. intake/.510 in. exhaust
* Lobe separation: 110 degrees
* RPM range: 1,900 to 5,600
* Needs 2,000 stall converter and lower gears
* Choppy idle

Noew, keep in mind, it will act a bit more mild in a 406.

the cam in my car now isnt choppy really, its actually pretty smooth so i wanted something a little aggressive, but i dont want to bring it over 5500. my cam i know has a warranty on it, it has about 3k miles on it so i wondering if i can use the price of this as credit tward the other cam setup.... if it comes down to it, ill get them a new one of what i already have under warranty, then send it back for a full refund and get the other camshaft.... id really like a roller cam but.....thats probably out of my league, 240 for the cam 400+ for the lifters, thats just those 2 things......WOW...i thought i could get it cheaper than that, ill probably end up going with another hydraulic flat tappet cam.... maybe something different....

You need some "retrofit" roller lifters; a cam button; a step-nose (factory roller) timing set; and a spacer equal in thickness to the factory roller setup's cam reatiner plate. And of course the right length push rods, which will depend on what lifters you use; most of the "retrofit" roller lifters need the PRs to be about 7.3" long, but there's no way to be sure until you assmeble the engine and check.

Watch ebay, lifters show up on there all the time.

i have a solution to my problem. my mother has a 78 vette and it has a roller cam setup in it. well im going to swap it out and put a more mild cam in it(she'd prefer that) and then put her roller setup in mine, for free..... only thing is, i need to know what pushrods i need, they are the retrofit lifters but my edelbrock heads required +.100 long pushrods. so what size would i actually need???? and id need to take just the cam and lifters correct? cause ill most likely not be able to use the pushrods that are in the vette.

The only way to truly know which pushrod length you need, you will need an adjustable pushrod length checking tool.

**** i dont think i have one.....well i know the roller setup pushrods are .4ish shorter and mine are .100 longer so therefore id need .300 shorter pushrods if the first number is correct...(i think its actually like .319 shorter)
