Keith Black pistons

I was wondering what is everyone's thoughts on these hypereutectic pistons. I was wondering because they are in the 383 eagle kit i want to get.

they're good pistons, and behave just like hypers do. hwat is it you're really wanting to know or ask?

i have them, bought an eagle kit too. I believe the KB's are the better made Hyper pistons. Dimensionally they were spot on! i just knocked down the sharp edges with a small file (top of piston only!!). If i were to get another set of hypers i wouldn't hesitate to get the KB's

Be real sure to follow the KB ring gap recomendations.
error on the big size especialoy if you're going to supecharge or spray it. The piston crown runs hotter on these pistons requiring larger than usual top ring gaps.
The gap while running at temp at WOT is normal.

have them in my 406. seem to work well.

So they should be fine for about a 400 or more horse motor, And I should beable to run some spray on it if I want to. What do you recommend for the top ring gap on these. Thank you Mike

hypers aren't the best choice for power adders. follow the makers specs for ring end gaps.

I've beat the snout outta them on many motors. Including nitrous and my current 383 roots-blown motor that makes about 470 at the crank (dyno verified). I don't recommend them for such applications but, obviously, you can use them if you're careful. They're still not as good as a forged piston if you encounter detonation, but they are tough little suckers nonetheless. Their overall quality out of the box is excellent. Tolerances are generally dead-on to spec and weight rarely varies by more than about 3g from heaviest to lightest in a set.

Heed F-Bird's warnings about ring gap. They are to be set MUCH wider than most of the pistons your local machine shop has ever encountered. .026" for a street N/A motor. .032" for a mild blower or nitrous motor. That's a HUGE top ring gap compared to most pistons, but works exactly as advertised if you follow directions. if you don't you will quickly destroy the motor. Ask me how I know.

Also, KB pistons SOMETIMES are LOCATION SPECIFIC. They can go in either bank but you MUST make sure that the location of the exhaust valve is correct for the side of the chamber that the exhaust valve is on for that particular cylinder. You'll see what I mean when you have a look at them.

Ok cool thank you very much, So the top ring gap is .026 for NA and .032 for blown. In the eagle kit do you think they will give me the papers that tell for the ring gap and stuff?

If they supply the original paperwork for all the included parts then you will get it. If not, you can get it from the United Engine and Machine website (UEM makes Keith Black and Silvolite pistons) or call their tech support guys. Here's their website:
