305 heads

Are all the 305 heads pretty much the same or is there one version better than the other? Like tbi versus tpi heads.

Thanks

There are the 416/601 versions which are pretty much the same. They are pre-86 bolt pattern. Perimeter bolt, non-self aligning.

There is the TBI heads, avoid at all cost (these are the swirl port design)

There are the 305 TPI heads, which are also good heads for porting and polishing. These, i believe are centerbolt, self aligning.

AFAIK, all 305 heads have 1.84/1.5 valves.

Thats the basics...

Thanks
I asked since my son has a 91 305/tbi and has a chance to pick up a set from a 305 tuned port if they're worth while.

Pick them up! As Stekman said the LO3 heads are junk. A 305 TPI head can be more than enough head for any built 305 when properly prepped. The 416 head would be the next choice.
