Distributor Problem perhaps ? pls help down to the line...
Fixed the Vac leak, But It still Wont Idle in Gear.
I got out the Timing light and Discoverd that when I set inital to 8* or So at 1000 Rpm at idle in park, When I rev the Motor, and centrifugal Kicks In, the advance kciks up appropriately, but when it comes down it only comes down to about 12* or mroe and stays there, Idle goes up accordingly as well. Then I time it back to 8* And it does it all again...
This is all with the Vac advance Disconnected. Im thinking perhaps the centrifugal advance mechanism is sticking ? I took it all apart and it dosent appear to be However, uugh...
It idles very nicely in park at 1000 rpm at 8* advance but as soon as you touch the gas, it hops up. As soon as you put it into gear it sputters out and dies, any ideas ?
Its a Lg4 w/ Copmp 981 valve springs, Comp Timing Chain, Comp XE262H And performer RPM intake. Valve Lash seems to be Set appropriately. There is One a little loose that is Ticking, but that shure shouldnt cause any of the described problems.
Its a Vaccum advance dist out of a 79 firebird I had, And a mech Qjet from an older truck. both worked Fine Before I swapped The cam and intake.
I have Driven it With this setup By revving it up a bit and getting it into gear, And it seems to drive fairly well, But still likes to die At idle in gear, Have to pop it into neutral at stoplights.
Ive already had to borrow a buddy's car For 2 days Now, And I really need to Get my Game back On the Road, any help is appriciated

remanned hei's are so cheap I would just replace it. It sounds like there is a problem with the mech. advance.

I agree , sounds like the mech. advance is sticking.
Turn the rotor clockwise against the springs and let go. See where it returns to. Now try turning it further counterclockwise and see if it was returning all the way.
