I was wondering if this magnetic drain plug will work on my 1982 Trans Am with an LG4.

When I called a dealership they asked about the thread size, and said they wouldn't have one for my vehicle.

Every drain plug ive seen on a sbc is the same. Besides the website even says it fits all V8's so why wouldnt it fit yours.
I'm curious about the thread size.

'98 and up Vortec are not the same, they are now metric.
You are correct about the 1/2-20 thread size. I just got one from Napa, and confirimed the thread size at a dealership.

I just installed it today. The one odd part was that the gasket kind of shread a bit. It's not leaking though. Is this supposed to happen?

That's it. The only problem is the gasket shread too eaisly. If it starts to leak, I'm going to use a copper washer instead.
Just pick up a copper gasket, and you'll be good to go.
