installing cam

I'll be installing a cam really soon into a completely stock L98 with 90,000 miles. Besides springs and studs, what are some essentials that i should replace? Keep in mind that I'm on such an extreme budget, i'm practically sellin my body for every cent i get.

New timing set wouldnt be a bad idea. Probably also a good idea to get a good set of rockers to go along with it. Also replace the lifters if theyre in poor shape.

Inspect the lifters. Feel each one for any oddities. Primarily spin the roller. If they spin freely, they can be reused. Otherwise, they are a cheap and easy junkyard score.

But yep, i would swap the timing set. For rockers, i would recommend the Comp Magnum series. They are the steel rollertip versions and cost roughly $150 for either 1.52 or 1.6 non self aligning. I believe it is $195 or so for the S/A versions.

Do the comp. mags clear the later style valve covers?

OH thats right, you would need the self aligning versions. The 1.52 may clear height wise. the 1.6 MAY require tall VC's. But yes, Comp does offer centerbolt rockers. I believe the P/N is 1416-16 or something like that. I have them on the Vortecs and they work fine but i have tall covers.
