I know you have done a lot of work on that car, but when you sell a car you dont get back what you put into it. The high price tag is probably going to scare a lot of people away.

i don't see $40k in parts there. looks like a $5-7k car to me. I have as many mods of a similar type into my camaro, and i'd be lucky to have spent a third of what you're claiming. Not to mention you NEVER get out what you put into a car. I had a 37k suburban, sold it for a ton less than i payed for it after only 3 years. Same principal applies.

Only problem with recoupng you losses, you put money into the wrong kind of automobile, Thirdgens are not really considered a classic...i/e like a '32 Ford, etc, where you might break even on parts, but loose on labor.
Guess what I'm getting at is would you buy a '79 Buick LaSabre that someone spent 50K on for a full resto, for 25K?
Probably not.
My advice would be to list the car forsale, cost associated for the mods, and list it as "best offer", someone may come across it, want a 3rdgen and see you have 40K in it and may be they'd want to do the same thing to the same type of car, and you may be suprised at what they'd offer.

Unfortunately, you aren't gonna get close to your $40,000 price. I'd put the car back close to stock and sell it that way. Then sell of all the performance stuff seperate. That way you can recover at least a chunk of the investment.
Good luck

with 40k into the car it would be stupid to sell it. i can see maybe selling it for 12k with what u have. and if the finances are really tight, then i think u should cut back other places rather than loose 30k in a car like that.

When I bought my car I wanted bone stock so I could play with it. Buying sombodys modded car was like "theirs" and not mine. Hopefully somebody will give you what you want. I know I'll probeble go back to stock before I ever sell my car. Sell all my suspension, motor, brakes and all
For 10K you could part my car out yourself and make more. I just don't want the hastle. I don't have the stock parts anymore. Besides, I could not tear her apart any more than I could stand wrecking a car I put so many hours into.

CamaroMike,
If I were you I'd really try to avoid selling it because you will regret it. It is a beautiful car. Is there no other way to get some cash?
Let's do a reality check. Get on ebay. Select only Cameros. Sort by highest price to lowest. Then try to find a thirdgen. First one I found was this with no bids:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6161
Then this for $9000 and no bids:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...&category=6161
What I'm saying is, if no one is buying these, I don't think you will get much for yours. Thirdgen's just aren't in demand-yet. They are too new to be old, and too old to be new. If you had put as much money in firstgen, it would be no problem.
If you are really desparate to sell, you will need to lower your reserve probably to $5000. Otherwise, ebay will just eat your listing fees for lunch.
I really feel you pain, but I'm learning my lesson from this. I'm not going to dump too much into my car just in case I need to sell it (in fact, I'm already under water with mine - I don't think I could sell it for how much I have into it).
One good thing about ebay, even if you don't sell it on ebay, don't fear. The guy I bought my GTA from had it on ebay for $4000 and buy-it-now for $4500. He got no bids, but I ended up calling him after the auction and bought it for $3800. I think I could have gotten it for a lot less, but oh well.
Good luck,
Don

Thanks for the kind words but it's not about how much I spent but how much I will spend. Project cars always seem to need something. Never ending projects drive me nuts and I really would rather build a Chevelle. Should have started there in the first place. If I hold onto the car until I get 10 or 15K then inflation will eat any gain up and the car will just deteriorate. Rather see someone enjoy the car.

I hear you. I spent $550 on new clutch parts only to find out it was just a loose clutch fork! Now what do I do? The car has 74K on the clutch so someday I'll need to replace it, but if it ain't broke, I ain't fixing it. My GTA has a gapping hole in the exhaust right after the dual cats - $$$$ for a new exhaust next. Also, it needs body work. Dents and a small patch of rust. It's a driver but I like going to car shows. This ain't show ready by a long shot.
Like your Chevelle dream, I have a '70 Challenger and a '71 Cuda sitting in the garage (I'm mostly a mopar guy). Both need a very good going over (the Cuda is a 318 and I want to make it a hemi). But finances and time just aren't in my favor. The only good thing is these cars are appreciating as they sit there (and sit, and sit).
One thing very much in your favor is you have the skills and time to do it. My cars will probably sit in the garage until I retire (I'm 38). I'd give anything to have the time and skills to do what you did with your Camero.
But the really bad thing is even though you spend all the time and effort doing a car right, you never get what you put into it (that's why you don't sell it). Whoever buys your car should realize and be thankful they are getting such a killer deal.
