help w/ a cam

hi... i have a 350 target motor... and have no clue as to what kind of cam i have... i need to know, so i can get a new intake and carb but 2 problems arise... i dont have a dial indicator, can i use a micrometer? and do i really have to take out the cam?... i dont really want to run the risk of damaging the bearings or the cam if i dont have to... is it possible to just measure the valve movement? The motor is a Target 350, that is a pre 86 block, and post 86 heads.. and i have no clue what cam...DOes anyone know what usally came with target motors? I need help QUICK... Thanks

Its probably a stock 190's @.50.
If your changing the intake it would be a good opertunity to change the cam & lifters.
comp makes some cams like 103 114@.50 that get better power/economy than a stock cam.
just somthing to think about.

you can get one of the old reliable 204-214 420-443s for about 65 bucks with lifters i think but they arn't very good. An extra 50 bucks will get a good comp in that range.

You could probably get a performer intake and a 600vacuum holley off of ebay for 125 bucks.

I was a little low but according to the summit page http://store.summitracing.com/produc...earchType=ECat
most comp hyds cams are less than 100. Their lifters are about 70 bucks a set. But you can find others much closer to 50 bucks a set.

Comp cam alone is about 125. Comp cam w/Comp lifters is about $179.

I think your cam is 194/204 or something like that. Dealer you got the motor from can tell you, or go to their website and look for the engine there. They will list the cam specs, I am sure.

The cheapo 204/214deg .420/.442" lift cams (similar to Edelbrock 2102 cam) are fine for a mellow goodwrench crate motor. Good cam for daily driving/mileage.

I'd go with the package if you just want to spend a little money and need to just get it done. Yeah, you COULD do it MUCH better, but just get it done and drive it.
