I have a 3.1 v6 with an after market muffler, dont know what kind because it was on the car when i got it, well anyways the car sat around for 3 years in an empty lot then i got it the gas in it was bad so we drained the gas but cutting the fuel line by the filter and letting it drain the replacing the filter while we were at it then finished it off with rubber hose well anyways when the car is running the exhuast has a strong odor where if you go near it while its running you will smell like it until you change or something... but it does not smell like rotten eggs...any help will be helpful cause im tired of changing when ever i go near my car so i wont smell like crap

 

Is the exhaust manifold messed up? The exhaust manifold in my formula was cracked and it smelled terrible.

 

draining the tank does not clean it....especially if it sat for 3 years. could be just burning off the gunk and sludge in the tank....

 

so the more i have the car running the quicker all the sludge will burn...man they should make smellovision because the odor that i have isnt like rotten eggs it still smells like exhuast but its more noticable

 

i could be wrong but that may be the problem.....just a slight film of crud on the wall of the gas tank will cause that....or a clogged catalytic converter....or something faulty in the emissions system.

my car stinks to high heaven because i have no cat and no emissions controls. but i have a meaner sounding exhaust, a prettier engine bay and less restrictions
