fouling out spark plugs

This is the first time here so I hope someone can help.

I just purchased an 85 Camaro V8 305 , from a family member who out of frustration had parked the car for a while and decided to sell.

He said the spark plugs kept fouling out and the car didnt want to keep running, and it was smoking when you started it up.

Does anyone one have any suggestions on what I should check?

Thanks for any suggestions in advance

Welcome to the boards!!

Smoking on startup is usually worn valve seals.

and the oil from the leaking from the valve seals could foul the spark plugs.

The other ways your plugs could be getting oil fouled is, blown intake manifold gaskets, a leaky PCV system, or worn piston rings.

I would start off with replacing the cap, rotor, plugs and plug wires.

as well as a new PCV valve, and PCV filter. That should all be relativly cheap.

The smoking on startup though is more than likely worn valve seals, they are cheap, and relativly easy to replace. Hope everything goes well

If you decide to change valve seals, use the umbrella style as the o-ring ones suck.
