Will this cam work okay?

After to talking with some people in the drag race forum, I was wondering if I maybe should swap out my cam. I pulled the 305 yesterday and I would like to figure this out before I put the 406 in. This is my setup right now:

406
650 cfm Holley VS carb
Chevy aluminum intake
882 heads (yes I know they are crap but new heads are $$$)
flat top pistons, 5.565" rods, stock crank
RV cam
Hedman 1 5/8" headers with 2.5" dual turbo mufflers and cutouts

I have a Comp Cams Magnum grind 280H cam (280 adv./230 @ .050", .480" lift) I know it does not match the setup as well as the RV cam does but I don't think I will be able to hook up all the torque with the RV cam plus it will drop off about 4500 or so rpms. I know better than to use Desktop Dyno to get real power numbers, but I have heard it is good for getting a good idea of the power curve and the 280H moves the torque peak up 1000 rpms and the hp peak up 500 rpms. Will it be a good idea to swap out this cam? Will the cam fit without hitting the rods? How difficult would it be to change out the valvesprings, and would there be a way to see if I need to (i.e. part number on them, way to check lift limits, etc.)?

Thanks,
Adam

I run that exact same cam in my 350, and I think its alrigt. Plenty of power and no problems. Pulls enough vacuum for power brakes, and has one mean and nasty idle.

How tough is it to change valve springs? Anybody know if the rods will have to be clearanced?

Should be no need at all to clearance anything. As for valvesprings, do a search and you will find lots of threads on replacing them.
