Differences in '85 Z28 and '85 IROC - LG4

Howdy all.

I want to make my car into an IROC clone. I've always loved the IROC badges on the sides and all, so I figure I had might as well go all the way and change out everything to make it into an IROC clone.

I have an LG4 and the only mechanical differences I can see between my car and the IROC for 85 are that the IROC has 3.23 gears.

I'm sure that there must be other differences (suspension, etc.) and I was wondering if anyone might know where they're listed or might know them offhand.

Thanks!

Wonderbar I think was on the IROC, as well as a little stiffer springs. Not much different than a Z28 though. The IROC should also have larger swaybars IIRC.

I totally disagree with you doing this! If you want an iroc get an iroc!

But the differences are : (copied from the tech data section)

"The new IROC-Z option was available on the Z28 and came with new 16x8 aluminum rims, P245/50VR-16 Z Rated Goodyear Gatorback tires, fog lights, CAMARO on front license plate panel, .5 inch lowered ride height, body colored valances, Delco-Bilstein rear gas shocks, special front struts, increased spring rates, special jounce bumpers, 5 degrees of caster (up from 3.5 on Z28) in front wheel alignment, `WonderBar' front frame rail stiffener, special valving in steering for increased steering effort, larger rear stabilizer bar with stiffer bushings, IROC-Z exterior decals and interior dash badge, and a thinner two-color lower body stripe."

Si.

Well I would have loved to, but my money is limited, and all the irocs around here were way past how much I could spend.

However PARTS are a different matter as I can get anything brand new at wholesale or under.

I bought this car for $350 bucks.. then rebuilt the tranny with a new servo and shift kit for $550 total.

So my budget at the moment won't allow me to get an IROC, but I can make my car drive like one.

Thanks a bunch for all that info!

It's amazing how the best parts of this site are so easily overlooked. Read this: https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/techdb.shtml

IMO - I'd prefer the standard Z28 over the IROC for two reasons:

1. Fewer stereotypes.
2. I'm sick of seeing poorly done IROC clones.

If you are going to do it, do it right. Make sure the door decals are CORRECT and in the CORRECT location. None of that custom cheapie stuff.

What do you mean by "stereotype?" People stereotype IROCs?

See definition of stereotype. And unfortunately almost all are negative, and true

I have an 86 iroc z28
says Iroc on the doors and z28 on the gfx and rear bumper.
I dont like badges and will be removing them
I may keep the one on the rear bumper z28
but the Iroc sticker on the door I especially dont like.

I think the guys who actually raced and competed in the Internation Race Of Champions (IROC) would disagree with the stereotype being universally negative. On the street..... well, there's plenty of unflattering versions of the IROC acronym running around.

I would rather have Z-28 on the side of my Camaro than IROC, personally. But I agree that if you're going to make a clone DO IT RIGHT. Make it look FACTORY, not like you did the lettering yourself with a magic marker.
