416 heads on a 350 block? yea or nay
I got a set of 416 heads off a 305, following the port and polish article on here, would they work on a 350 to increase compression or would it be a waste of time, and a other wise stock L98?

yes you would boost comprestion but lose flow.. so i wouldnt do it.. the runner are smaller on the 305 heads. there for less low end power!
That is a fairy tale, the 416 heads have a 165cc intake runner, that is bigger then most 350 heads. This guy obviously doesn't know what he is talking about, a smaller runner will give you more low end power, due to the increased velocity.

Smaller runner = more low end, at the expense of top end support
bigger runner =more top end, at the expense of low end velocity
I have 416s that ive massaged out a tad. on my engine. They work fine. They benifit from 350 sized valves, however. 1.94/1.6 are what i used. used Sitting Bulls thread as a guideline. i was pleased with the results...granted i am yet to run with them.
I say go for it.

You will want carbide cutters. I'm sure grinding wheels would work, but time isn't going to stop and wait.
I have a dremel, but opted to use a die grinder with variable speed control. I was glad i did. At that, i prefer the 1/4" shank of the die grinder over the 1/8" of the dremel. Also, i have never seen a 6" carbide of any tip shape, with a 1/8" shank diameter. And those 6" cutters work really nice for the deep port work.

Mine worked dynamite. good power to 7000rpm, fully ported with 1.94 x1.60 valves.
I got a little carried away with the compression ratio.
It was 12.65:1. Make yours around 10:1.
Good go for the $doe$.
Got to ask thou, Y not just soup up the L-98 heads?

Hey Russ,
Have you gotten through the quarter yet this year with the 416s on your 350? I know your engine grenaded last year and am wondering if you have a current ET?

No, your heads are almost the same but have center bolt valve covers. Other then that they are about the same.
