MAF circuit
My shop manual hasn't arrived yet, so I don't know how to trouble shoot a Code 36. I replaced the burn-off relay, but still have the "36." The MAF sensor has the screens removed. It's an '87 IROC Z-28 with a TPI350. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bob,
Since you have a new MAF burn off relay, and it should be the same as the MAF power relay, exchange the two. If you study the MAF power and burn off circuits, you'll see that the burn off function relies upon normally open contacts in the burn off relay AND normally closed contacts in the MAF power relay. If the NC contacts don't close reliably - no burn off.

To Vader: Thanks, again. I'll do the relay switch in the A.M. and see what happens. To Madmax: The code is set upon initial start up. Sometimes, it's not there at all. Other days, it's there all day. Been goin' on for a few days.

Madmax: Ta tell ya the truth, the OEM voltmeter has been a bit below the halfway mark for a coupla days, but rises to just over half after about 15 minutes of driving. Like others, I don't know whether to fully trust a 14 year old OEM gauge. At this very minute, the battery reads 12.71 on a digital VOM.

See if you can get a friend to help check it while cranking. In the low 10 range is bad news. I chased this stupid code for a long time, and tracked it down to the battery. Its just a WAG, but looking back its happened to me more than once and I didnt realize it the first time what fixed it.
