91 Z28 Dual Fan Question

My sis has a 91 Z-28. My dad noticed that only on fan was on when the car was at operating temp. Are both fans supposed to be on, or does the other one come on at a higher temp? Also, He said that when he put the AC on, and gave it some gas, that the otehr fan went on for a few seconds, then went back off. Do you think the fan motor needs to be replaced? Thanks

One fan is supposed to come on when the engine reaches a certain temp, like 239*, which is very hot... the secondary fan will come on when the A/C is turned on (or defrost). It is controlled by a pressure switch, so the switch could be bad, or if the A/C needs servicing (low pressure), it could cause the fan to not come on and stay on while the A/C is in use. Once you shut the A/C off, the secondary fan will continue to run for a couple of minutes. Most people have replaced their stock fan switch with another one that comes on at a lower temp. Mine is a 200* on, 185* off...
