Power locks sticking, any obvious solutions?

I'm at the point now when I hit the power locks, the doors don't actually lock/unlock anymore. Other than the solenoids being old and weak, could the mechanism just be dirty? I hear the solenoids get weak when they're old but they're expensive and a pain to replace. I've never taken a door apart. I have done other interior stuff. Is this a real pain in the *** or what? Suggestions?

Actually its pretty simple. I fixed both my locks about 2 weeks ago. Look in the tech section for the door panel restoration article and it will tell how to remove the door panel (very easy) or just do a search on the board. After you get it off just clean everything up, spray it with WD-40, and then put lithium grease on all the moving parts that need it. They work great now, only have to hit the button once and they slide right over.
