Prom bruning and software development???
Prom bruning and software development???
What are the requirements for a prom burner to be considered good enough for burning 86-93 Eproms? Any good websites you can think of (I want to do this cheap if possible.) What size Proms do we use, and how many pins?
Also, where do I find the software for it and what's the cost?
Lastly, how difficult is this? I'm talking about a MAF car here. Could you just basicly copy the old prom, save all the fuel tables, and MAF/O2 tables, and then just modify the torque curve? Also, can you increase the amount of fuel that gets in the motor by the chip?
Thanks

Have you tried the DIY PROM board and read Traxion's PROM Burning article (with a link at the very top of the DIY PROM board)? Tim's article has ALL the answers to all of your questions (plus a lot more). Plus, read some of the older posts (set the date to all posts over the last year) as there were a lot of "how do I start" questions in the beginning...we tend not to answer those anymore ... just point people where to read...too much re-typing.
Also, read some of the newer posts, especially about "Flash Proms". This is a recent development and us SD guys are using those now instead of the regualar eproms. They cost only a few pennies more, last virtually indefinitely AND you don't need a UV Eraser for them (saves some money).
Just don't start a "Superram vs Miniram" debate on the DIY PROM board. But, in all fairness, I think this is a reason a lot of Superram owners do not attain the potential they SHOULD. The Superram needs a special eprom to match its power characteristics, especially with Speed Density. A lot of the "custom prom writers" know how to write an eprom for TPI, modified TPI and Minirams, but not the Superram. I cannot see how a Superram could perform optimally WITHOUT an eprom designed for it.
I never pointed this out in the great "Superram vs Miniram" debate, but running either system without an eprom matched specifically to the system greatly affects the performance. If I had an eprom designed for the Superram and then installed a Miniram, the Miniram will not perform optimally. Similarly, if I had an eprom designed for the Miniram and installed a Superram, the Superram would not perform optimally.
That is why an eprom is so important, especially if you plan to run a Superram due to its unique power characteristics. A TPI eprom or Miniram eprom will defintely not make the Superram perform optimally.

i'll move this to the prom board. you should get more help there.
