oil & trans cooler ?
oil & trans cooler ?
i put a permacool double cooler on my car. it has a 4 row and a 2 row cooler in one unit. what would be better to run in which cooler? i'm thinking the trans in the 4 row and oil in the 2 row. there will be a fair amount of line involved it this plus i'm running remote filters for the oil and trans, so there will be a lot of area for both to cool without even going to the cooler. thanks

Ed,
I'd do it just like you are suggesting. The transmission can make a lot of heat, and the engine oil can survive the heat better. Any oil cooling is a good thing, but the trans really needs more help if you can provide it. The "oil cooler" on many cars is a heat exchanger in the hot side of the radiator tank or a steel tube (without fins) looping under the lower radiator support. Just being able to get out of the engine and into free air can dump 30° from the oil temperature fairly quickly.

The "built in" coolers on my truck should be the same as the cars that have tranny and engine oil coolers.
Hot side (passenger tank) has the tranny cooler. Cold side (driver tank) has the engine cooler.
I'd also agree that the tranny oil needs more cooling then the engine. Both oil temperatures should be between 175-225F. Adding a high stall converter will increase the tranny oil temperature.
