Ticking Noise

I just purchased my first camaro its an 85 with a swapped in 350 holley double pumper beefy cam (not sure of the durations) weiand intake. But when i start it up i notice a ticking on the drivers side of the engine, it doesnt tick on the passenger side, now i checked the engine over and i was making sure the rocker arms were all nice and snug not loose or anythign is there a possibilty that i over tightened. When it idles sometimes with will jump from 1000 to 750 i dunno if this is normal but its a fair amount of shaking but i thought that might just be from the engine. Any help or suggestions would be awesume. And also if anyone has a holley 700 double pumper i was just trying to figure out all the screws like idle and all of those if you have a pic and can show me thatd be great to.

Thanks everyone in advance

did you just tighten them up or did you set the valve lash correctly ..???

to set it correctly while the engine is running start the engine and loosen the rocker til it ticks then tighten it till it stops ticking and then go another 1/2 turn should be fine .....but with the engine running and the valve cover off its gonna spray some oil out at you ...if you go to the parts store and ask for some rocker stoppers they have them there pretty cheap and they stop the oil from flying out every where http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...+clips&x=0&y=0

Bottom line: hydraulic lifters are not designed to tick. There may be rocker arm chatter, however, that doesn't sound like a tick/exhaust leak. Get that thought of "oh big cam, must tick" out of your head

Try resetting the valve lash.

I know when I first had my engine built I had a ticking sound on the pass side.. turned out to be the rocker slightly hitting the valve cover.

Some valvetrains are noiser than others. I know that I can hear my roller rockers when it is running, but they dont tick, they make thier own noise. BOttom line is when you hear a tick, its not right.
