Why does everyone say 91 RS's comes with 2.73 gears?

My RPO's say I have 3.23 gears. Was this only with the standard?

They had 2.73, 3.08, 3.23, or 3.42 depending on engine and transmission.

do you have a B4C? most 5spd RS's I've seen have 3.08's.. mine included.

Anthony

p.s not saying you car doesn't have 3.23's, just that it seems odd.

you can stereotype that all you want, but not all people say that. not sure this is even a technical post, more of another argument post. no, not all of them had that gear. i am guessing though that yours has a v6?

According to the Technical Database 91 RS's with the LH0 V6's and standard auto transmissions were equipped with 3.23 rear-end gears. L03 RS's came with 2.73 auto, 3.08 manual, and LH0 manual's came with 3.42's.

Are you sure the previous owner didn't swap rears? You say you have the RPO codes GU5 and L03 so that makes me wonder. I do know that G92 is the code for the performance axle ratio but that wasn't an option with the L03. This really has me stumped, I've never heard of this before.

A few months ago I decoded all of my RPO's and I had GU5. I'll check again today to make sure I'm not mistaken. I hope I'm the only combination like that.

...unless you ordered something different... I waited seventeen weeks to get a vehicle with 3.73 posi gearing. One dealership sales person said that wasn't possible. The new/used car sales and discount parts counter professions have a disproportionate number of forking morons working in them. Most other professions have the normal amount of forking morons and a few scattered dweebs, dolts, and plain idiots.

If you don't agree, do a little research on a new vehicle then go discuss it with a factory sales person or two. Or try to find a distributor cap and rotor for an LT1 at AutoZone.
