Well, It's at the machine shop.
350 block (4" bore .030 over)
Forged Crank (.010 cut)
4-Bolt Mains (Studs)
Forged Pistons (Flat-Top)
Wheeler Rods w/ARP Bolts
Windadge Tray
High-Volume Oil Pump
Milodon Deep-Sump Oil Pan
Chrome Timing Cover - True Roller Timing Chain
.470/.470 solid lifter camshaft
L-31 Vortec Heads, 10.5:1 Compression (Studs holding it onto the beast)
Edelbrock Vortec Intake
Victor Reinz Gasket Set
Small Tube Headers through two flowmaster mufflers
650 Road Demon Carb
Being bolted up to a Beefed 700-r4 transmission with a stage 2 shift kit for those nice, hard shifts.
How much power do you guys est. this motor will make at the rear wheels, with a Powertrax locker, and a 4.11 gear? Thanks for your help.

i'd guess 360 to 380. maybe less, but depends on how well it's dialed in. not sure if you've bought the intake, but use a victor jr. when you get it done, have it dyno'd and see what you got.
Zippy is pretty darn close to what my Desktop Dyno predicted.
At the crank:
- HP: 463 @ 6500
- TQ: 444 @ 4500 (very flat TQ curve
)
(figure +/- 5% error factor)
Assuming a 20% loss in the drivetrain and you have;
- HP: 388 @ 6500
- TQ: 356 @ 4500
at the the rear wheels.

Other than the Vortec intake and the automatic, this sounds like a very familiar 355 build...
This is one of the very few engines I've ever had dynoed (some years ago), and the only one that was ever BHP tested. It was run in and tested on an ancient electrodynamic engine tester, engine and flywheel only. I've built several like it, and have had moderate success. This one is a two-bolt with four-bolt caps in the middle three, 11:1 TRW forged, peened pink rods, Crane's repro of the .447/.447 hydraulic Chevy cam, 2.11/1.77 Pontiac valves, homespun head porting, Melling HV pump, 9-quart with tray and loosely fit scrapers, roller timing set, expanded oil galleries, balanced assembly, Edelbrock Performer, Holley 650 vacuum, SuperCoil and CD ignition, 1-5/8" short Hookers, and other stuff I can't remember.
It made 423hp@5,800 and 430ft/lb@4,500:
I'm guessing that you could assume a 13-18% driveline loss and calculate the RWHP, but you're probably close to 350 or so with the slightly lighter compression.

Desktop Dyno is a program that allows you to model various engine combo's prior to spending a dime on parts. From what I have read and seen, it's fairly accurate. My own personal experience is with a 4.3 TBI v6 I built for a friend's off-road truck. This program "gestimated" 320HP @ 5500 & TQ 355@3000. While we're still playing with the PROM & FP settings, so far we're showing 287HP @ 5300 & 302 ft/lbs @ 3500 on the dyno. To give you another example. I for one don't like the Chevy 305. In the past I have suggested that folks swap in a 350 or larger engine in addition to stating the 350+ will make more horsepower & torque while being a lot easier on parts. Here's proof. EVERYTHING being equal except for displacement:
- vortec heads (1.94x1.50 valves)
- .450 high perf. street cam
- 660 CFM carb & dual plane manifold
- 10.0:1 compression
- small tube headers w/ mufflers
305:
- HP: 365 @ 6000
- TQ: 370 @ 4000
350:
- HP: 388 @ 5500
- TQ: 413 @ 4000
You could wring out still more power from either by dialing in the combo but I guarantee you the 350 will always end up on top. Don't belive me??? Buy the software and try it yourself.
