Changing fuel pump what else should I replace?
I am putting in a Holley in tank unit this weekend, wondering what other parts typically wear out inside the tank that I should replace? Seals, bushings maybe the sending unit? As long as it doesn't cost to much I might as well do it all at once. I have 155K on the car now.

did my "roadside predicament" get ya thinkin ?
everything looked really nice and clean on mine -- I would have liked to replace the gasket under the lock cam on the top of the tank -- but other than that I saw no reason to replace anything but the pump and kit contents.

Your 88 might have a Pulsator in the tank above the pump. Little gizmo that smoothes out the fuel flow. Pump is attached to the Pulsator and this is connected to the fuel line. About 15 bucks at parts stores.

Adambros" Did you get yours done already? Did you do it yourself? How fun was it?
I have changed the fuel filter twice in the last year, so thats cool. Fuel vent check valve? I'll look into that.
So what I should check out for possible changes, (that haven't been done)
Strainer (for sure)
Fuel vent check valve?
Pulsator?
Gasket (for sure)
Sending unit?
Allright cool then, I will look all this up, check on pricing and availability and then decide. You guys gave me food for thought, thanks!!

- Strainer (Sock)
- Pulsator (looks like mini Brake Master Cyl)
- Tank Seal (O-Ring)
- Fuel Line (O-Rings)
When you put everything back together, verify the tank is sealed BEFORE you tighten it down!

Adambros, might have been easier to refill the tank if you pumped it into a gas can? I'll go ahead and assume you didn't have one.
Is the Strainer (sock) is that the piece on end of pump? I just called it a filter and the Holley unit comes with a new one.

yeah, i had an OSHA approved hand pump and gas can, but 8 gallons still takes a while to pump out . . . not hard work, it's just quite tedious in a hot garage by yourself. My point was -- if you can run your car, and get your tank less than 1/4 full -- the job will be easier.
The strainer, sock, filter is exactly what you think it is.

how would you verifiy if the tank is sealed?
i changed my pump a lil while ago but before i did it would hiss when i would open the gas cap but now it does not
is that a very big problem?

To check the tank. I use my mity-mouth pump!
After you seal the tank with the pump inside. Plug all the lines coming from the sending unit except one. Then put the final one to your mouth (hopefully the vent or return line) apply some pressure and listen for hissing or leaks.
I purchased a brand new sending unit for my tank and ended up find a leak at the top of the sending unit after installing the tank. Needless to say I was not happy!

I believe that on mine, I applied pressure to the vent hose with that valve off. The fuel pump line and return line should not flow air.
You could apply pressure to the gas cap port and see if it holds. There is some venting, but I don't think it will vent with low pressure. Or you could try to plug that vent when you do it.
If you are not 100% sealed, I think everything will work. Still if it were me I'd want to figure out what it was.
