Solid Trans Mount
Solid Trans Mount
Who makes one for our cars with a 700R4 ?
I read that the one Moroso makes doesnt fit and the one that TransDapt makes(looking at the pic)doesnt have the bolt hole in the middle, where it bolts to the cross member.
Any ideas?
Im going to be using TransDapts solid motor
mounts.Turning this car into more strip than street.
Thanks,
Don

I would never use a solid mount on our cars.
Well at least I wouldn't because my torque arm is mounted solid to the trans (with a rod end)
To mount a solid trans mount you need at least:
Solid motor mounts
Subframe connectors
'Regular' mounted torque arm (polyurthane ok)
If you're thinking of this because you're sick of blowing apart regular mounts, energy suspension makes a interlocking urthane mount that cannot seperate.
Solid motor mounts are cool though
but even then I run a urthane mount. The tailshaft is only held on by 4 bolts like 3/8 but metric (10mm maybe) and they are only threaded into the aluminum case. If that doesn't strip out the tailshaft will crack.
I have never seen a solid mount 'advertised' as a 700r4 mount, but a T350 mount could be made to work if you really want to do this

I am under the impression that if I run solid motor mounts, then I need to run a solid trans mount,is this correct? I WILL be running solid motor mounts.I have sub frame connectors and E.S. trans mount already.
I plan on keeping the Energy Suspension bushing on the torque arm and switching the
E.S. trans mount and E.S. motor mounts over to solid type.I feel this will make the car flex much less than it currently does.
This car is not a daily driver,so Im not concerned at all about comfort.
So,is there a solid trans mount avaible for the 700R4?
Thanks,
Nitro Don

Actually, I don't think you -need- to run the solid trans mount. I think the opposite's true- if you use a solid trans mount, you must use solid motor mounts; since the motor would twist (on rubber) but the trans wouldn't, which cracks the trans. I think it's fine for the motor to be solid and the trans twist... anyone know for sure?
Hey, I could've sworn I saw a solid trans mount for the 700r4 in Summit's catalog... maybe by Competition Engineering? Maybe I'm thinking of the Moroso one.

Yes, thats correct imo. Figuring the motor is mounted solid, the chassis will flex some (even with sfc) becoming higher on the drivers side under hard acceleration. Since the weakest link IS the trans mount (because the steel motor mount bolted in cast iron block isn't going to give) the transmission tailshaft must take this flexing force. Aluminum has a nasty habit of work hardening and after flexing so many times will break... (like bending a paperclip back and forth)
Add the force of the torque arm trying to push the tail through your floor and....
The point is you need some place to 'release' this pressure and a urthane mount on the tranny is a good spot. In theory with a car that will not flex at all, and no drivetrain forces (a 700hp cast iron sb chevy distorts 1/16" to 1/8" from corner to corner on the oil pan rail on launch!)
The urthane won't 'mush' anything up and might help slightly to quiet rear end whine that will come through the floor. Even the quietest rear will be very audible with solid motor mounts and a solid torque arm mount!
