do you have a vacume leak ?
or you could just need to set up your idle a little

First, make sure your idle speed is high enough that when you put it in gear the engine stays strong.

Second, check the manifold, carb, and vaccum lines for leaks.

Third, check your timing and ignition- a poorly tuned ignition makes a car really weak.

Well, he DID say he has a carburetor... Doesn't that qualify?

i adjusted my timing with a light to 0 ,not good did it by ear aand it made a world of difference runs like a striped assed ape until i run for about a half hour then it wants to die,at stop. no leaks, is it possible that the gas in the line is getting to hot? it ran at 220 id guess but the temp line is running between my headers anyway i got a 160 stat and it keeps it a little cooler but this idle thing is making me nuts
