Car takes a couple times to start...?

Im sure this has been asked a million times...though I could not find the same problem when I used search...sooo
In the morning my car can start up...then it dies, then it starts up, then it dies, and then It starts up and its good the rest of the day. I think its something to do with my carb/electric choke. I was wondering if anyone could give me detailed steps on how to fix this.
my car is a 305 with stock carb.

What procedure are you using to start the engine?

You should be depressing the accelerator to the floor once before cranking, to set the choke and high idle cam.

Hey I have been having the same problem on my 84 Trans Am (305 LG4 4BBL). Car runs great all day long, then when it sits for 10(or so)+ hours, it take 3 or 4 starts to keep it running. Also on a side note, while putting everything back together after doing a head gasket, I noticed a second MAP sensor on my car. Its on the pass side, sort of by the heater box. The other one is on the Driver's side mounted on the firewall with 800 other relays. Whats up with that?

Oh, sorry. I personally pump the gas three times and hit the key to start first thing in the AM.
