Sorry Colin but no one except GM makes a 170 t-stat for small block Chevy's except GM. The part number can be found in my article:

The GM part number for a 170°F 'stat is the same as the number for a 180°F 'stat. You have to specify which one you want at the parts counter. According to the database, the P/N is AC Delco 10220957 - 180°, or AC Delco 10220957 - 170°.

And not to start any battles, but GM hasn't actually made a thermostat since the late 1950's. GM sources their thermostats from Robertshaw/Invensys, so an aftermarket Robertshaw 'stat is in effect the same as the OEM "genuine GM" part (Robertshaw F-460 170°F).

Ummmm.....I have to disagree with the fact that you can only get a 170 stat from GM. I have a Moroso in my car! Works great! It is a little more expensive though. I got it from Jegs (They're local, so why pay shipping from summit on a small part!)

Re: does GM sell a 170* stat??

I know, it's a SERIOUS thread resurrection but I just wanted to let people know that RockAuto.com has the GM 170* t-stat (#10220957, ACDelco #13184) for just under $10, around $15 shipped.

There's also a high flow version from Meziere (p/n WN0070170), one from TPiS (p/n 100-349), and Hypertech makes two (p/n's 1017 & 1007) but I'm unsure which one will fit a SBC or engine using a similar style T-stat.

Hope this helps someone!

- Joel

Actually, when it comes to a 170* t-stat you are very incorrect, they only carry the common ones which does not include the 170's. For a 170* t-stat you will need to order one of the ones I listed, and though performance shops can order these they don't carry them in stock either. Long story short, if you go looking for a 170* t-stat at you local APS then you are gonna be SOL.

Y not buy a 165 from auto zone or advance auto? Its cheap and easily accessible. plus your motor will run that much cooler.
