Roller rocker problem
Has anyone seen anything like this? It doesn't make any sense. It's off my friends 94 T/A, he put diffrenent springs/locks/retainers and a cc305 cam in his car along with crane 1.6 rr's. The car is running strange and we checked the install height on the springs, and while the rockers were off, he noticed the sides of the rocker arm are hitting the retainer before the roller his the valve stem. This is a pic of one, and it's the best one out of the whole group.

Yup. pretty familiar....
It's what happens when you put .050" offset keepers on top of valves that have had their stem tips ground off.
Lash caps might fix that, if they'll fit down in the place in the tip that they're supposed to go. But he might just have to do away with the self-aligning rockers altogether, and put guide plates on it, so that he'll have the larger diameter rollers without the groove.
I doubt that would make the car run wrong though; mostly, I'd expect it would just be real noisy.

Yeah looks like the valve tips might have been ground down during a valve job reducing their height above the retainer, either need new valves or non-self-aligning rockers unless you can buy keepers that will lower the retainer a little, but that would increase seat pressure and may cause coil bind with a high lift cam.
