why won't you run!!??
OK. Here's the story.
88 camaro, 305, tbi. got the 'ro about 2 months ago. Have been working on it and reading this site ever since. It ran when i bought it, but would hesitate when floored. I drove it home (mostly interstate drive) and about 20 mins in ses light comes on. By the time i got to my driveway, it died, and would only start up for a few seconds at a time only if i feathered the pedal. The codes i got were for egr, too rich and too lean fuel, and electronic spark control.
Here's what's been replaced; O2 sensor, egr valve, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, fuel filter, and pcv valve. My results, nothing. I can't seem to find any vacuum leaks, but hear alot of air around the throttle body. With all vacuum lines hooked up, the car will start for just a second, then die. By experimenting, i've found that if I unhook the vac lines from the front and back of the throttle body, the car will idle if the pedal is feathered but dies without.
I haven't seen any other posts quite like my problem, but would sure appreciate some input.

Thanks V12
Hey V12, obviously your dead on with your response considering how many people read the post and did not reply. I don't know why the thought never crossed my mind. (guess that's why it says "junior member" by my name)
Anyhow, hopefully i can change it within the next week. Thanks for the lightning fast reply.

Welcome aboard!
While the timing chain may or may not be in bad shape, I would wait to replace it as of now.
Start by checking the fuel pressure and the timing, at both idle and ~3500 RPMs. This checks both the initial static and the total advance timing.
*edit* I just now see where you got your user name. Nice!

Sounds like fuel delivery to me.
Check your fuel pressure; TBI wants something like 9 psi at idle, 13 psi with no vacuum; if it's low, you can try a fuel pressure regulator (part of th eTBI itself), but more likely it needs a fuel pump.

thanx for the help
Just wanted to post a little follow up. I rigged up my own fuel pressure valve with a schroeder valve and some brass fittings. three trips to the hardware store later, the highest reading i could get was 3, and that was clamping the return line. Anyhow, 3 days spent on and off dropping the tank, and changing the pump. That sucked, and i was working on gravel. Damn i'm bruised up. Anyway, it was the pump. Or maybe just the 2 inches of hose between the pump and the fuel line. It had a hole in it and looked like chewed bubblegum. I think the last guy who changed it used the wrong type of hose. I wasn't about to put the old pump back in after I went through all that to get it out. So I put the new pump in, but used the old hose.
I think were running pretty good now, but the front suspension is next on the "to do" list. Alot of crunch when i turn a hard right slowly. Hopefully i won't have to call out for help on this. I think the first thing i'll check for is that well spoke of crack behind the steering box. (please don't be that!!!)
thanx again for the quick responses. I sure appreciate it.
