the engine on my 87 Iroc is starting to burn oil but i dont know what the problem is. it only seems to smoke when idleing and when the engine is warm. it does not smoke on accel decell or when you first start it up.
I drove it for 300miles on the highway and it didn't burn enough oil to show up on the dipstick yet when im stopped at a light it puffs like crazy and the car reeks of burning oil

I pulled the breather while it was idling and there is hardly any crankcase pressure, pcv system seems to be in working order.
the engine is a ZZ3 crate that was put in only 20000 miles ago

any thoughts?

 

Sounds like a leak to me, getting on the exhaust somewhere. Maybe even a transmission leak? Rear seal on tranny is good at this, throws oil on exhaust and really stinks.

 

well I let my GF drive it with me following behind and it's definatly burning the oil through the engine. it puffs a bit on light throttle/idle then when you give it gas it lets out a big puff then cleans up until you cruise a low rpm or stopped at a light again..
I've went 800km so far and the oil level hasn't dropped yet so its not a lot getting used up..
it's still frustrating

sticking oil ring? scored cylinder?
