Engine Timing

I just got my engine together and running but do not know the proper way to set the initial timing. I could use some info on the proper way to do this because I just don't have the proper books to tell me how. Also what is the base timing supposed to be? 1988 IROC-Z 350 TPI. Thanks guys.

if you're going to try to set the timing you ought to buy a manual for your car. first unplug the est connection, then set base timing at 8*btdc, then plug est connection back in.
