misting water into engine

someone asked if misting water into an engine will help or hurt it. the answer is it will hurt if too much water is used. aircraft used to use water on takeoff for more power when loaded and superchargers blasting away. i am a service advisor in the rv industry and you used to be able to by water injection system to help these under powered monsters when they hit an upgrade, in fact EDLEBROCK used to sell them. i made one out of a windshield washer tank/pump and have used it for 10 years on my 86 ss. the valves and pistons are sparkling. i run 50/50 isoprophl alcohol and water. i trigger the system with a manual switch on the shifter when i get on it. this will enable you to run more advanced timing or lower grade gas if you want to. the trick is to get the proper size jetting. i run cheap gas and higher timing with no ping........anyone else out there that says it doesn't work?
