who has HOT can on tpi motor
who has HOT can on tpi motor
I have a brand new 350 crate motor. it is a 91-93 caprice motor and I have a HOT cam that I might put in. My question is... CHP mag did a write up on this cam and they said that you will need the extreme heavy duty timing chaim from GM. Well, it cost $332.00 Do I need this timing chain or can I just use the stock one? if the stock one isnt strong enough then can I get a hipo on in jegs or summit? also, how are these cams installed. I hear things about cams being istalled straight up and stuff. oh ya one more thing. do I have to change the dowel pin on the cam and what about the cam gear? I don't want to run into any problems half way through the install. thanks

In addition to all this stuff, I would like to know how the LT4 HOT cam does on TPI engines. I'm gonne run one, and was thinking about going with TPI. Also, will the cam work better with the super-ram or mini-ram than with the LTR setup? Just looking for ideas!
Thanks

The actual setup seemed to work good til my tranny smoked. I used GM's single roller timing chain in mine. The heavy duty that they are refering to is for the LT1 guys. The cam is supposed to be installed straight up, meaning no advance or retard. The dowel pin will have to be shortened to .060". Again the longer dowel is used for the LT1. The gear is fine. Do a search for Kevin's results with the Hot cam.
